Rangers reach quarter-finals

Carrick Rangers are through the quarter-finals of the Intermediate Cup thanks to a 3-2 victory over Dollingstown at Planters Park.

Gary Haveron’s men were in front after 12 minutes when Anthony Lagan slid in to guide the ball home, getting on the end of Aaron Smyth’s cross-shot from a deep position.

Shortly before half-time, substitute Adam Dick dusted himself down after being felled in the box to double Rangers’ advantage with a penalty kick.

Gers skipper Aaron Harmon made it 3-0 when he arrived in the box to hammer home a left-foot drive which zipped past William McKinstry on 69 minutes.

Dollingtown could have rolled over but they hit back within 60 seconds thanks to Jordan Gibson.

The Championship 2 were on the scoresheet again when Richard Thompson found the net deep into additional time, but it proved to be too little, too late.
