Rangers Reserves bid for maiden success

Banbridge Rangers Reserves will travel to Holm Park in Armagh this Saturday hoping to engrave their name on the Wilmor Johnston Memorial Cup for the first time taking on Newry City AFC Reserves (kick-off 7.30pm).

In the league this season, Newry City hosted the first encounter which was dominated by Banbridge Rangers Reserves. Aaron Chambers scored twice after captain Wayne Nelson had headed the visitors in front. In the return fixture at the Tech pitch in Banbridge, the Newry side were able to strengthen significantly with Andy McLarty and Joel Annett scoring two goals a piece to cancel out a first minute opener from Andy Mallen.

A superb second half comeback saw Stephen Copes and Aaron Chambers score from inside the area to give the Gers a chance and in stoppage time at the end of the game Matty McKnight was able to head in from close range to finish the match at 4-4.

Andy Frazer took over the reigns from Trevor McMinn at the start of 2014 and has improved on the Rangers Reserves positive start to the season. This was due to the impact of coach Davy Harvey coming on board at the start of the season and raising the fitness and stamina levels of the players so they could compete.

So far Frazer is unbeaten and the organisation of the team has improved with four clean sheets in succession including the 4-0 win over Banbridge Town Reserves at Cheney Park on Saturday.
