Rangers return to action with a trip to face Lisburn Distillery

Carrick Rangers were denied the chance to take control at the top of the Championship 1 table when league bosses refused permission for last Saturday’s scheduled home match against Knockbreda to proceed.

“It was disappointing but these things happen and you just have to accept them,” said boss Gary Haveron, who revealed that the green light should be given before the weekend and the installation of the new floodlights will be a major boost for the club as the winter sets in.

“The contractors should be signing off on the lights before the week is out and now we will be able to slot in midweek games and also have the welcome option of scheduling games for Friday nights.

“The problems which caused the Knockbreda match to be postponed was to do with a wall having to be knocked down and replaced and the league officials were not happy that the rebuilt wall would be set by Saturday wary of the dangers if a player happened to run into it.

“But these things happen and all the work that has been done around the ground will be well worthwhile.

“The chairman, Davy Hilditch, has worked wonders and clocked up countless hours to keep the whole thing going over a good number of years.”

Haveron is now focused on the weekend league match against Lisburn Distillery.

“There’ll be nothing easy there against a side who were 2-0 before we stormed back to beat them in the Steel Cup clash a few weeks ago.

“They are a solid side and if you scan through their matches this season, you will see they tend to get a lead but haven’t just been able to gold onto to it often enough.”

Haveron said he is delighted to have Aaron Harmon (inset) back from injury after a lay-off stretching back to the opening day match against Donegal Celtic.

“That’s good because he’s been a terrific servant of the club for about five years and is a class act,” added manager Haveron, whose team have been paired with Cliftonville Olympic in the Steel and Sons Cup quarter-final.
