Rathfriland Youth make the leap to Mid-Ulster League

The youth section of Rathfriland Football Club are getting back into full swing after the summer break with training recommencing at Iveagh Park on Wednesday August 7 from 7pm.

The youth section of the club was formed three years ago and has grown in that time with 165 players registered last year playing for teams from U7 to U16.

The ethos of RFC Youth is to provide an opportunity for all children, boys and girls from 5-18 to play and enjoy the game of football whether it’s at our training sessions or for a team.

In doing so they aim to promote the health and wellbeing of the children involved, whilst also ensuring they have the opportunity to become the best they possibly can be, in a safe and friendly environment.

The club has 15 IFA qualified coaches who coach and manage nine teams. The younger teams play in the IFA Games Development Centre in Newry, U11 and U12s in the Mid Ulster Games Development Centre on a home and away basis and for the first time three teams, the U13s and U14s and U16 have applied to play in the Mid-Ulster Youth League.

Chairman Lindsay Bronte said, “The decision to enter teams to the Mid-Ulster League is a natural progression as the club strives to develop our young talent to play in the senior teams of the future.”

He added, “We would love to see more young talent come through the gates of the club on Wednesday nights so if anyone would like to come along and try out for a team they will be made very welcome by our coaching team.
