Recent signings making big impression for Northend

A number of Northend United Youth’s newer players turned in encouraging performances in match action over the weekend.

Callum McMurray scored a brace of goals for the U11s and Jack McIlhatton turning in a top performance for the U11s against Ballymoney United.

Olly Kerr and Lee Turner were also in outstanding form for the U10s in their derby match against Carniny, whereas Rio Dunlop, Adam Mooney and Joseph Lyness have helped to strengthen the U13s as they begin to turn the corner in the Lisburn Youth League.

Northend United 3, Carniny Amateurs 4: ★Northend started this game at a fantastic pace and found themselves 3-0 up within the first 10 minutes thanks to a Jay McKeown double and a further goal from Ryan Campbell.

However, Carniny had reduced the defifict to a single goal by the break to set up a gripping second half in which they scored twice more, with the winning goal coming in the last minute. MOM - Stevie Bristow

Northend United 2, Ballymoney United 2: Northend edged themselves in front after two minutes. Lewis Hector fired a powerful shot towards goal and although this effort was blocked by the keeper, Callum McMurray was the first to re-act to the breaking ball and slot home from close range.

The Blues’ eagerness to extend their lead led to them over committing in numbers going forward and Ballymoney equalised through a swift counter attack.

Northend piled pressure on the Ballymoney defence in the second half but were dealt a huge slice of misfortune when a rare Ballymoney attack saw a mis-hit cross loop over the head of the helpless Curtis Wilson.

With moments remaining Lewis Hector made a strong run along the right wing and fired a powerful shot towards goal. The Ballymoney keeper produced another fine save, but Callum McMurray was on hand to fire the ball over the line. MOM - Jack Adams, Peter Bristow and David Magill.

Northend United 1, Dungiven Celtic 2: In the third meeting between the sides this season, Dungiven took the lead midway through the first half when the Blues defence failed to clear.

Northend’s equaliser in the second half came from left back Ryan McQuillan who got the ball on the half way and proceeded towards the Dungiven defence. He forced his way through a couple of challenges and stroked a sublime left foot shot high into the net.

But the north west side grabbed a winner with less than 10 minutes to go, while Harry Wylie struck the crossbar with the last kick of the game. MOM - Ryan McQuillan.

Donegal Celtic 4, Northend United 1: The Blues took the lead on 20 minutes. Brandon Millar went on an overlapping run down the right wing and his cross was met by Jordan Adams, whose well placed shot beat the DC keeper.

Stand-in Northend keeper Graeme McCartney then saved a penalty but a goal conceded at the start of the second half rocked Northend who conceded three more.
