Relegated teams make poor start to life in Three

THE two team relegated from Division Two last season both endured a miserable start to life in the bottom division.

Enkalon took just a point from their trip to Eaton Park, while Golf Seniors fell to a surprise defeat on their own mats at the hands of All Saints.

Enkalon were 13 shots adrift at the interval of their trip to the Broughshane Road clubrooms after David McCausland and Bonar Hill had established a solid platform for Eaton with wins over Jackie Sands and Frank Coulter.

Robin Kennedy kept Enkalon's faint hopes alive by beating John Carruthers, but Ruth Kelly completed a good night's work for Eaton Park with a 14-5 win over Basil Johnston.

All Saints are normally more prolific scorers in their own Kenbaan clubrooms but they started their campaign with a low-scoring win at Golf Seniors.

Ivan McMaster struck the first blow for the golfers by edging out Eugene Walsh but Saints were ahead on shots by the interval, thanks to Paddy Martin's 10-3 success over George McCrea.

Eugene McReynolds extended the visitors' advantage by beating Donald Smyth by an identical margin while in the final game, John Nichols and Bridie McReynolds shared a point after a 10-10 stalemate.

Saints had James McCann's rink to thank for securing their overall shots victory as his 16-4 win over Kevin McLarnon ultimately tipped the balance in the visitors' favour, although Michael Teer's Round Tower rink had a good go at redressing the balance with a 12-4 win over Charlie Graham.

Tower's other point came from Gilmore Campbell whose rink beat Patsy Boyd 10-8, while Paul Webb skipped St Mary's other winning rink, who beat John O'Neill 9-6.
