Mo McDowell and Frazer Young worked a short corner to the edge of the penalty area where left back Ryan Balmer shot low into the bottom corner for his third goal in four games.

Before the visitors could respond Ryan Sands put Carniny two goals to the good. A Courts corner was cleared to Sands twenty yards from his own goal, he accelerated upfield with the ball and shaking off a couple of challenges proceeded to deceive the goalkeeper to score from ten yards out for a fantastic strike.

Courts came close on a couple of occasions from set plays including one where Richard Kane hit the bar with a header from a corner.

Carniny still moved forward in numbers and could have gone three ahead had it not been for the efforts of Lee Simpson in the Courts goal who having parried Tyler Caulfield’s shot from distance made a superb block to deny Jonny Spence a goal from the rebound.

After the break Carniny set about increasing their lead and the third goal eventually came in the 65th minute after Jonny Spence took a quick corner to Mo McDowell’s whose clipped cross was finished off by Dean Dunlop with a well placed header. The visitors began to tire and while Alex McCosh in Carninys goal had a couple of saves to make, the early goals had given Carniny the platform for a comfortable passage into Round Three.

Dollingstown Res 0, Harryville Homers 4: Homers, spurred on by last year’s cup exploits, hit the ground running, taking the play to their hosts.

The visitors took the lead after twenty minutes when midfield linchpin Darren Campbell glanced home a David Nicholl near post corner to give his side a deserved lead.

Alan Rainey continued his rich vein of goalscoring form when his impulsive drive from the edge of the box gave the Dollingstown keeper no chance at all on the half hour mark and send Homers in two up at half time and cruising.

Bonnes, not to be outdone by his partner, got in on the goalscoring act himself when his right foot shot beat the Dollingstown keeper from ten yards out.

In the other two ties involving BSML teams FC Moylena were beaten 2-1 after extra time by Derriaghy CCII and FC Antrim lost out in a seven goal thriller going down to Coleraine Crusaders.

Brian Martin in Saints goal came to their rescue 15 minutes in when he somehow got his finger tips to a Daniel Boyd shot to tip it over the bar.

Saints then started to play their way into the game and against the run of play broke down the right through Philip Lynn who picked out Gavin Burnside with a low cross and he turned and fired low into the net to open the scoring for Saints. Saints them started to dominate but could not add to their goal tally before halftime.

The second goal for Saints came ten minutes into the second half when Ballykeel were pushing for an equaliser. Saints substitute Kieran Loughran picked the ball up in mid field and played the ball over the top of the Ballykeel defence to send Ryan Wilkinson clear and he slotted the ball past the advancing Ballykeel keeper Steven Watson.

Then with three minutes to go Philip Lynn was sent clear with a pass frm Michael Maybin and when he was rounding the Ballykeel keeper was brought down and Saints were awarded a penalty kick. Micheal Maybin stepped up and cleverly chipped the ball into the roof of the net to score Saints third goal.

Wakehurst Star 2, FC Bayern Money 1: Wakehurst Star jumped off the bottom of the table for the first time this season edging out fellow strugglers Bayern.

Kieran O’Boyle steered a half volley into the far corner past the despairing Bayern keeper after 10 minutes to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Despite having the majority of possession Wakehurst were struggling to breakdown a resolute Bayern defence and no further goals were added to their tally until 75 minutes when Troy Ramsey found himself with space inside the box, the Bayern keeper Aaron Adams blocked with his legs and a Bayern defender had the misfortune of running the loose ball into his own net.

A moment of hesitation in the Wakehurst defence allowed Johnny McMullan to grab a consolation for the visitors on the final whistle.
