Rodgers’ Premier ambition

CARNLOUGH man Brendan Rodgers is just one game away from leading Swansea City to the Barclays Premier League.

The Swans, as they are affectionately known, take on Reading at Wembley on Monday for what is dubbed the biggest money-spinning match in football.

Rodgers, a reserve team manager at Chelsea during Jose Mourinho’s tenure, had spells as number one at Watford and with the Royals, but during this campaign has enjoyed his most successful managerial season to date, steering the Welsh club to third place in the nPower Championship. And he is now the one City fans are hoping can mastermind a return to the top-flight for the first time since the early 1980s.

The mouth-watering prize of a place at English football’s top table is now within reach for Rodgers, together with a potential £90m cash boost for the club.
