LIMAVADY United Under 16's defeated their Institute counterparts in a tight hard fought encounter at St Marys Pitches, on Saturday.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half the youths faced an early onslaught of with three different Stute players missing decent opportunities.

Seven minutes in the home side took the lead. Kyle Rankin and Ronan O'Kane combined to set up Dessie Loughery who made no mistake,

United upped the tempo and had chances missed through Richard King, Stephen McElhinney and Ronan O'Kane.

United were caught out not long before half-time when hesitancy in midfield allowed Bartley to play in Conor McKenna, who appeared to be offside, Caolan McDonald in goal for Limavady who did his best to distract him but it didn't work as McKenna slotted home.

'Stute looked the livelier forcing McDonald into making two top drawer saves and Limavady missing easy chances through Loughery and Holmes.

Declan Logue tried his best to earn a penalty but was booked for diving.

United did eventually score when Ronan O'Kane won a penalty. Declan Logue dispatched his spot kick low and hard to the keepers right.

'Stute pressed for a leveller but again McDonald in goals stood firm as he was called into action increasingly in the second half.

Limavady held on to the final whistle and they now progress through to the next round of the league cup.
