Ryan nets four but is relishing return of strike partner

However, Ryan is counting down the days until he can share the spotlight again with strike partner Warner Mullen.

Loughgall had to experience life with the short-term loss of Mullen for the first time on Saturday following the forward’s recent holiday departure to Australia.

Mullen has dominated the forwardline for Loughgall this season thanks to support from Ryan, with the latter having to handle centre-stage on Saturday against Bangor.

“The sooner Warner is back the better as far as I’m concerned,” said Ryan. “He is the best strike partner I have ever had, without a doubt.

“Warner has been having a brilliant season and I have been pleased with my overall form but recently went a few games without a goal.

“I knew I needed to step up on Saturday but to score all four goals was something else, I couldn’t believe it.

“It was a big win for the team and it needed a group effort, even if people will talk about me getting four.

“The best part of Saturday was how we got back into the match as a team then managed to regroup and regain the lead for a 4-3 win.

“We are going well this season and it shows how high confidence must be within the squad, especially with some key senior players out.

“I look around and feel we have goals across the side so it is not just about me or Warner.”

Group progress will prove the end product of teamwork at Lakeview Park but the partnership between Ryan and Mullen serves as an example of collective strength from individual ability.

“I never knew Warner until I joined Loughgall but we clicked from day one basically,” said Ryan. “We don’t need to really work on it as our own playing styles blend together, with Warner so strong as the targetman and I am on the move as the runner.

“Of all the players I have had as a strike partner, Warner is the one I would always pick.

“I am sure going forward we will continue to get goals as a team and we have a strong squad in place around the club at the minute.”
