SAINTS’ TURKISH DELIGHT

JUST one match survived the weather in the Edel-Tonic Ballymena Saturday Morning League at the weekend.

St Comgalls’ Division Two match against Michelin went ahead after St Comgalls switched it to the 3G pitch at The Cliff Seacourt Larne and it turned out a successful switch as Division Two Leaders put six past one of their near rivals with Turkey player Sencer Yilmaz their hero with a hat trick.

Michelin got off to a dream start when Stephen Sexton found the net with a 30 yard screamer after 6 minutes.

Saints got over this shock 5 minutes later when Dean Shaw made a good run down the right before crossing to Lee Rea to head home the equaliser.

This spurred on the home team and although reduced to 10 men due to an injury threw everything at Michelin and were awarded a penalty kick for hand ball. Mark McClean took the spot kick and fired it low into the corner of the net to give Saints the lead.

The home side continued to attack and went in at half time 3-1 up thanks to a goal from Sencer Yilnaz who rose above the Michelin defence to head home a Dean Shaw corner kick.

The second half started the same as the first with an early Michelin goal when Paul O’Neill broke through and cleverly chipped the advancing Saints keeper James McKeown to make it 3-2 and game on.

Both teams had chances but it was Saints whom restored their 2 goal lead with the next goal on the hour mark. Sencer Yilnaz collected the ball inside Michelin’s half and broke clear before firing home to make it 4-2 to Saints.

This turned out to be the killer goal for Saints went on to score another two goal the first of these coming from the Turkish player Senser Yilnaz who completed his hat trick when he took another penalty kick Saints were awarded then late on Mark Stephens scrambled the ball home during a goal mouth melee late on to make it 6-2 to St Comgalls.

A great win for Saints who go further ahead of the challengers while Michelin will have to regroup and come again.

The rest of the fixtures in the BSML and Paddy Power Junior Shield were all postponed.
