Same again would do nicely for Harkin

INSTITUTE’S Neil Harkin believes if he and his-teams can have a repeat display against neighbours Limavady United, at Drumahoe this Saturday, then they should have enough to reach the JJB Sports Irish Cup fifth round.

The former Limavady man has settled right back into things after re-signing for the Waterside club and would love to get one over his old side.

“Yes they obviously will be out for some revenge as we have beaten them twice already this season, but the way I look at it is if we keep our performances up the way we did in the other games against them, then hopefully we’ll get the result and get through to the next round,” stated the Waterside man.

“They aren’t an easy team to beat and with it being a local derby, any derby match is a big one, so with it also being a cup tie it makes it even more interesting.”

The midfielder knows like every small club in this round how important financially a victory over United could be for the Drumahoe club and he wants to pit his wits against the likes of Linfield, Glentoran or Coleraine, but he knows they will have to get more consistent if they harbour hopes of progressing

“To be honest we are not going to have to worry about the next round, only if we get past Limavady, but hopefully we do and I would like to get someone like Linfield or Coleraine just to show what ’Stute can do and show them that we are capable of playing in the Premiership.

“It’s that bit of luck that we need, because there were times that we just had all possession and peppering the opponents goal, but we just didn’t score and didn’t get that wee bit of luck which you need to beat teams.

“We never got the first goal, which is always crucial, because it means that you can push on and try to kill the game off, but we have been working hard at training and hopefully our luck will change starting this weekend against Limavady.”

The Gobnascale man also believes their victory in their last outing over Glebe Rangers a few weeks ago, could be a crucial one and he’s a little disappointed that they aren’t able to try and get a wee run of results going in the league, as cup action takes centre stage this weekend.

“We need to get the victory because of the run of results we were on, but to be honest every game to us is a big one, so getting the three points off Glebe was great as it just keeps up there or there about’s for promotion.

“Everyone knows the league is our main priority and I’m not saying that if we go out on Saturday and lose to Limavady that we wouldn’t be upset about it, as everyone in the squad would be, but because we beat Glebe in the league a few weeks ago, we are just disappointed that we aren’t able to get another three points and keep our promotion hopes going.”
