Sam’s the man as he comes off the bench to grab all three points

This week it was the Bannsideders themselves who struck late on to complete a marvellous comeback for Oran Kearney’s men at Portadown.

It was the home side who struck first as McMahon found the net with only eight minutes gone.

But Coleraine produced a excellent performance to fight back and deservedly take all three points at Shamrock Park.

First James McLaughlin fired in an excellent shot from outside the box with 20 minutes to go.

Then up popped Sammy Morrow to grab all three points as he coolly finished a great move in the dying minutes.

Speaking after the game the match winner hailed his young team-mates for another impressive display.

“It was a great win for us” Morrow said.

“We went behind early on but we responded and bounced back. We have so much youthful exuberance in this team, and I think that’s what proved the difference in the end.

“The lads gave it everything out there and they kept believing.”

The Bannsiders are four points clear of fifth-placed Glenavon as they look to cement their place in the top half of the table.

But Morrow is refusing to get carried away with the Showgrounds club’s start to the season.

“At the start of the season we felt we could achieve a top six finish,” he added.

“But the league tends to take shape around Christmas, so we will evaluate things later in the season.”

Kearney also praised his young guns for the level of their performance in keeping going until the final whistle.

“I keep saying to our lads, and it’s so obvious, it’s a 90 minute game and games can be won or lost in the first 10 or 15 minutes or the last 10 or 15 minutes,” he said after the game..

“As it turned out today I think we got our first goal in about the 70th minute and the winner with about three or four to go.

“It’s a great day at the office for us. Going on the back of last week’s good performance against Crusaders, to win a game with another good performance is brilliant.

“We showed a lot of inventiveness and passed the ball well.

“There is a lot of potential in this team and hopefully we can maintain this level of performance.

“We are still holding our own in fourth place, which is a massive boost considering our difficult programme of games against top teams.”

For Portadown it was another disappointing result – the Shamrock Park men have lost four of their nine Premiership fixtures.

“We were sluggish this afternoon and our defending was poor,” assistant boss Kieran Harding admitted.

“We didn’t hold the ball up well enough, and when you put all those things together then you are going to end up with problems.

“We left the door open for Coleraine to punish us, and that’s exactly what they did. We have to move on to the next game and try and bounce back.”

For Coleraine they will be hoping to keep their good form going this Saturday at home to Warrenpoint Town.

Barry Gray’s side are currently propping up the table with only four points to their name.

Kearney though will be making sure his side approach the game in the same manner as Saturday.

“It doesn’t matter who you play it’s always a tough game,” he said.

“We have to make sure we go out with the same mentality on Saturday.”
