Saturday’s journey to Lurgan to face Derryhirk was another unforgiving afternoon but the players once again showed their mettle.

The hosts took the lead with a sensational strike but Stephen Hendron put his side back on level terms when he burst clear of the home defence and kept his composure, rifling the ball high into the net.

Derryhirk scored twice more in the first half to carve out a commanding 3-1 lead.

Early in the second half the hosts made it 4-1, and a headed goal stretched Derryhirk’s lead to 5-1.

In the closing stages Greg Douglas was tripped inside the penalty area and stepped up to send the home keeper the wrong way from the resultant spot kick for a deserved goal.
