Schools Cup drawn

THE NI Schools Cup, featuring a host of local teams, has been launched for the new season by ex NI International Michael Hughes and NISFA Chairman Bob Ramsey.

Local schools such as Foyle College and Limavady Grammar will be in action in a number of sections in the IFA event.

Chairman of the Northern Ireland Schools Football Association, Bob Ramsey commented: “For the forthcoming season we are going to have a NI Plate competition in all 4 age groups for those who are eliminated in the 1st round of the NI Vauxhall Cup. The Plate will run in conjunction with the NI Vauxhall Cup which means it will be part of our National Cup Finals day in April at Ballymena Showgrounds.”

In the Youth Cup Foyle College will take on Grosvenor Grammar School, Limavady Grammar will face off against Carrick Grammar, the NWRC team play St Patrick’s in Ballymena while St. Joseph’s here in Londonderry will play Lismore Comprehensive.

In the Seniors Cup Foyle have again been drawn against Carrick, St Jospeh’s in Londonderry will play Priory College, St Columb’s College take on Newtonabbey, and Oakgrove will play De La Salle in Belfast.

In the Intermediate Cup draw there were two Londonderry derbies selected, with St Columb’s College paired with Foyle and Oakgrove paired with St Joseph’s. Lumen Christi will play Wellington College and Lisneal will take on Our Lady and St Patrick’s.

In the Minor Cup draw, Lumen Christi were paired up with Wellington College again while St Columb’s College will take on Lismore. Another match up between Londonderry rivals Oakgrove and St Joseph’s will also take place in the Minor Cup Draw. Lisneal will go straight through to the next round after getting a bye.

The Seniors Cup is expected to be as competitive as ever, with defending champions Holy Cross College aiming to retain their Senior Cup title; however will face stiff competition from the Londonderry boys at St Columbs College, amongst many others.
