Scoreless drawdisappoints Utd

LAST Saturday’s score-less draw between Dungiven and Newbuildings United, certainly game wasn’t much of a spectacle for the watching crowd due to the condition of the pitch.

With the surface being very bare and bumpy it hampered the passing game of Newbuildings and seemed to suit the home side who opted for the more direct route.

The first half was a battle with not much football being played and very little chances were created by the two sides.

Either side had a few corners which both defence’s coped with easy enough.

The second half saw Newbuildings get to grips with the playing surface better with Garth Falconer and Wallace having more of an influence forcing Dungiven to relay on the counter attack but Utd just couldnt find that bit of quality in the final third to make it count.

Curry and Wallace both tested the keeper from outside the box, the home stopper spilling both, but the rebounds fell to safety and were cleared.

Dungiven’s O’Kane had a chance which saw his effort from the edge of the box brilliantly tipped over by Ryan McCloskey.

Utd’s Wallace came closest to scoring when a corner clearance fell to him just inside the box but his placed shot was cleared off the line.

Gary Simpson’s side almost won it in the dying minutes when the ball fell to Falconer but the angle proved to be just too tight as his shot hit the outside of the post and behind.

Newbuildings can now look forward this Saturday to their Intermediate quarter-final cup clash at home to Ards Rangers (KO 1.30pm).
