Season gets off to cracking start

It was a welcome return to competitive action for all involved with the Lisburn Distillery Academy with all of the teams making a highly encouraging start to the new season.

At the top of the tree the youth team made an excellent start, defeating SOPYC 8-1. A Cole Maginnes hat-trick was the highlight of a game in which Ryan Hanna (2), Mark Lyons, Jackson Tuohey and Luke Bradley also found the net.

Other big winners were Gary Boreland’s U15s whose fine form from the end of last season continued when they put ten past Masserene without reply. Corey Geddis (2), Jack Boreland, Leon Young, Sam Mulligan and Ryan Adair all got goals but it was no surprise that Matt Fegan was man-of-the-match after a four goal haul.

The U12s were unlucky to go down 5-3 in a thrilling game with new boys TW Braga; Adam Hamilton, Jason Scott and Lewis Smylie with the goals in this one.

Coach Billy Shannon was pleased with the start the U16s made when goals from Adam Hewitt, Peter Freeland and Connor Broadman were enough to see off Lurgan Town 3-0.

The U13s also had a winning start against North End. Arty Storey’s boys found themselves behind against the run of play but a Jamie Hamilton hat-trick alongside goals from Corey Richards and Jake Corbett saw them comfortably home 5-2.

In the last of the Lisburn League games the U-14s went down 2-0 to Loughgall.

It has been a summer of hard work at mini-soccer level with co-ordinator Simon Wragg putting in a lot of hard work to form brand new teams at U8 and U9s. Unfortunately the bad weather put paid to a competitive debut for the U-8s but new coach Sean Devine was delighted with the performance of the U-9s.

In their first ever game together the very Wee Whites put in an excellent display in the A-section of the Belfast GDP against SOPYC and Christo Tsoutsas will be delighted with a brace of goals.

The two U-10 teams continued their progress, Jonathan McCullough, Michael Rocks and debutant Jack Bonar all got goals in a derby game with Lisburn Utd and the other game at this age-group saw Jake Donaghy produce an outstanding display against Crusaders.

Jake picked up a hat-trick himself as well as setting up goals for Bradley Ingram, Conall Cunningham, Spencer Maxwell and the superb Ross White.
