Seconds bow out of Moore Cup

DROMARA bowed out of the Walter Moore cup at the quarter final stage at Rosario on Saturday with a disappointing performance albeit with a weakened side missing the pace and goal threat of Collins, Magennis and McConnell.

It was going to be an afternoon where they would have to battle hard for a result and they got of to a good start with a slice of good luck when Carmichael’s freekick from just inside the home sides half was fumbled by the keeper into the net.

Dromara worked hard to null the home sides threat but with some big players they were always going to a threat at set plays. Ten minutes before the break a corner was met by their big centre half to head home of the inside of the post although the marking was poor.

The second half saw the wind get stronger and now playing against the wind they were struggling to put any decent passage of play together.The home took the lead for the first time when a needless freekick was given away and one of their forwards curled the kick into the top corner.

Dromara did not really create much although they had one chance when sixteen year Nathan Hamilton who came on as a sub to join his brother Kyle saw his shot blocked and Carmichael following up saw his effort hit the keeper.

Armstrong in goals at the other head pulled of a great save to keep them in it but with ten minutes to go another corner was not cleared and a player was given too much space to hammer home for another piece of slack marking.

To make matters worse Carson had to come off with a calf injury and another young player, who will only be 16 next week, Adam McDonald, came on as his replacement.

In the final minute with Dromara still trying to push on a breakaway saw a player beat the offside trap to give Armstrong no chance. It is back to league action again next week and manager Gormley will be hoping to have a few players back again to continue their good league form.
