Selection poser for Gers boss Haveron

Gary Haveron’s world couldn’t be much better right now, the unbeaten record as manager extended to three matches after negotiating a tricky fixture away to the Welders – and welcoming back five players to the squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Loughgall.

Ryan McCann, Correy Davidson, Anto Lagan, Ciaran Donaghy and Adam Dick are all available again for Saturday’s match at Lakeview Park and Haveron admits that, while it’s great to have them ready for action, it presents him with a problem.

“It’s great to have them back in the mix; of course it is. But the team has been playing well and now I have to consider a massive number of options and that’s not an easy thing for a manager to do,” he said.

“I have always said the boys who are wearing the jersey have the opportunity to ensure that it stays that way and, therefore, it’s up to them to fight to keep their places in the team. So there’s a lot of serious considerations to be given deep thought between now and Saturday.

“Certainly the guys on duty last weekend didn’t let us down by any means. Tillysburn Park is a hard place to go and get a result, even when the Welders maybe haven’t been getting the results, as has been the case in the past few weeks.

“We went about the job well and were good value for the 2-0 lead. But they have two big guys at centre-back area and they push forward and tend to specialise in causing trouble from long throw-in situations.

“They got a goal back, but I think we were always confident of the victory.”
