Setanta Sports Cup quarter-final draw made

The draw for the quarter-finals of the 2014 Setanta Sports Cup took place at the Aviva Stadium today and produced four excellent pairings.

In keeping with the recent format for the competition, the teams from the Airtricity League and the Danske Bank Premiership were paired against each other and the result was four north-south ties that will be eagerly anticipated between now and February when the first legs take place.

Holders Shamrock Rovers, who also won the tournament in 2011, will face Irish Cup winners Glentoran while newcomers Ballinamallard United will meet Airtricity League champions St Patrick’s Athletic.

Crusaders, who became only the second Irish League to lift the trophy when they won in 2012, will take on FAI Ford Cup holders Sligo Rovers while 2011 finalists Dundalk will play Coleraine, the only team to win a leg against eventual winners Shamrock Rovers in the 2013 competition.

The first legs will be played on Monday, February 24 and the second legs will take place on Monday, March 10

Setanta Sports will announce later which of the quarter-final first legs they intend to broadcast.
