Seven up for Portstewart!

PORTSTEWART were given a massive boost on Saturday when they hit SEVEN past Killymoon Rangers.

James Peden and Ian Todd both hit hat-tricks in the demolition, Owen Moody deservedly got his name on the score sheet too with a fine individual strike.

It was a fine display by Gary Taylor’s men, one they had been searching for after a run of bad results.

“We were delighted with the performance on Saturday,” admitted Taylor.

“We have been working more as a team in recent weeks, and Saturday was just the icing on the cake.

“Two hat-tricks from James Peden and Ian Todd and a fantastic goal from Owen Moody, it certainly made me a happy man on Saturday night,” admitted Taylor.

James Peden opened the scoring early in the tie from the spot, however Killymoon pulled a goal back soon after. A fantastic run from Moody put the Ports in front again and just before the break Ian Todd grabbed his first to leave the score 3-2 at the break.

A confident Portstewart emerged for the second spell.

Despite having most of the possesion it was the visitors who found the net. After this Portstewart were determined to make the most of their lead. Another penalty and a goal from James Peden and a brace from Todd left the final score 7-2.

“We spoke before the match about beating the teams around us in the league.

“We have to be realistic, there is no point chasing the Knockbreda’s or the Lurgan Celtics at the top, if we can beat the teams around us then we will soon start picking up points.

“Owen Peden, Andy White and Paul Milliken have been brilliant for us in the past few weeks, I couldn’t fault any of the boys on Saturday - I just hope we can keep it going.”

Portstewart travel to Moyola Park this Saturday.
