Seventh heaven for Homers in O'Kane Cup

HARRYVILLE Homers got over the disappointment of their Top Four Trophy semi-final exit last week by making the last 16 of the Arkmedia O'Kane Cup thanks to a 7-1 thrashing of Glenarm Rovers.

The home side started well taking the game to Glenarm but it took them until 20 minutes to break the deadlock when a long ball from Richard Aitcheson was controlled by Steven McKay who slipped in Alan Rainey to score.

Gary Bonnes soon doubled the scoring when he headed a Steven McKay cross home from 12 yards out.

Homers were well on top and made it 3-0 on the half hour mark when Ian Millar split the Glenarm defence for Rainey to race clear and round John McCormick in the Glenarm goal.

It was 4-0 just before half time when David Gibson rose highest at the back post to head home an Ian Millar free kick.

Glenarm got a goal back 10 minutes into the second half when Derek Morrow pounced on a mistake by the Homers back four to score.

After this Homers controlled the game and racked up another three goals, the fifth coming when a Millar corner was partially cleared to Gibson and he hammered the ball home from 18 yards out. Gibson then completed his hat trick when a the ball found the net off him after a Glenarm defender tried to clear a Millar cross.

Randalstown Sky Blues 0, Ballykeel 6: Ballykeel kept up their good start to the season with this superb victory over struggling Sky Blues, with all the goals coming in the second half.

The first half was a dour affair with little in the way of goalmouth action but the second half was only five minutes old when Ballykeel opened the scoring when Barry Bonnes collected the ball out on the right and cut inside before hammering the ball home from 20 yards out.

Ballykeel were now well on top and doubled their lead eight minutes later when Jason Magill picked up the ball on the edge of the box and beat his man before firing the ball home.

Substitute Jason Martin made it 5-0 when he hammered the ball home from 18 yards out and then with 10 minutes to go Magill completed the scoring when he bundled the ball home in a goalmouth scramble to complete the scoring.

Holywell started the game well but were dealt a major blow on the half hour mark when they lost influential centre half Luke McDermott and this gave the impetus to Swifts, who took the lead 10 minutes before the break when a Paul Craig corner was only partially cleared to Jason Stephens who laid it into the path of William McNabb who found the corner of the net from 18 yards out.

The second half saw Swifts take the game to Holywell and they should have doubled their lead earlier than they did with both Geoff Tweed and Rodney Beggs missing open goals before they did make it 2-0 when Ciaran Lemon and Gareth Gordon combined to send Beggs in the clear to score.

Holywell didn't lie down after this but Waveney sealed the victory with 12 minutes to go when Beggs scored from close range after good work from Geoff Tweed.

Dunloy Athletic 3, FC Antrim 0: Dunloy kept up their winning start to the season with this comfortable win against FC Antrim.

Antrim had a go at Dunloy but couldn't break down their defence and Athletic sealed the points with 18 minutes to go when Sean Dowds beat four Antrim men before slipping the ball to Barry McGonigle who fired home from all of 20 yards out and seal the win for his side.

BSML DIVISION THREE

Galgorm FC 2, Inver Athletic 1: Galgorm continue to enjoy life back in the BSML as they claimed all three points against a good footballing Inver side.

Galgorm opened the scoring after weathering the early pressure when David Woodburn clipped a ball over the Inver defence for Dean Wright who volleyed the ball home from 25 yards out.

The second half again saw Inver control the game for long periods but they never troubled Andrew Steele in the Galgorm goal until 20 minutes to go when a Galgorm defender turned the ball into his own goal under pressure from a corner kick.

This galvanised Galgorm as they went in search of the winner and it came with 13 minutes to go when Stephen Steele danced past two Inver defenders on the right and crossed for substitute Alan Jones to fire home from close range and seal all three points for Galgorm.
