Share of the spoils isn’t enough

INSTITUTE’S Head of Development Paul Kee was a disappointed that his side failed to grasp the opportunity of leap frogging Newry City with a win on Saturday.

The score draw at the weekend definitely suits Pat McGibbon’s men, but for Kee he too was annoyed that some players didn’t seem to be up for such an important game.

“There was a lack of chances created in the game,” explained Kee.

“In fairness to them they pressed on at us, they closed us down and denied us any space, but they were very good defensively and we didn’t get a massive flow to our game.

“There were one or two players who were out of sorts as well, which is a bit of a disappointment because of the nature of the game we had on Saturday.”

The Drumahoe man also felt their achilles heel and lack of creativity in the top end of the pitch continues to be a problem.

“I thought at the start of the second half we threatened to control the game, we were a wee bit active in their half but then as the game went on it died out a bit and that was a bit disappointing, but we have to dust ourselves down and get on with it.

“We have to score more goals and although I keep saying, I think you can see on Saturday’s performance we have to be more effective in the last third of the pitch.”

With leaders Ballinamallard United stretching their lead over ’Stute to 12 points after their win at Tobermore United and the likes of Bangor and Loughgall also securing three points to move above the Waterside men in the Championship One table, Kee remains confident of securing second spot.

“A point is more beneficial for them, because they have a couple of games in hand on us and they are a couple of points ahead, so they were delighted at the end of the game.

“But it’s still a work in progress for us, after all the trials and tribulations of what has happened over the last two months we have to get ourselves back on track, but as long as we are in the mix we’ll keep fighting and that is what we have to do.”
