Duffy turns down Norwich for Derry

DERRY City forward Michael Duffy has turned down a trial with English Premier League outfit Norwich to sign a two-year professional contract with the Candystripes.

The 18-year-old prospect - who had also attracted interest from Coleraine man Kenny Shiels’ charges Kilmarnock and Yorkshire sleeping giant Sheffield United - turned down the chance of an opportunity to train with the likes of Wesley Houlahan and Anthony Pilkington.

Duffy was one of a trio of local youngsters Brandywell supremo Declan Devine was anxious to keep at the club alongside midfielder Barry McNamee and forward Ryan Curran.
