Shot proves vital at Golf Club

THE Division One game at Ballymena Golf Club, where the opposition was provided by the Playing Fields 'A' team, resulted in one shot deciding the issue on two occasions.

Firstly, Kevin McGarry won by one shot against Robert Black and the home team won the overall point by one shot.

Sean McGarry and William Humphrey ended up all square to give the golfers a half-time advantage of one shot.

The other two games were also close affairs with Johnny Lynn defeating Doran Turtle by two shots, whereas Broughshane's Alan Cahoon got the better of Johnny Jamieson by the same margin.

Michelin received a jolt when they dropped two points at home to JTI.

The opening two games saw Wesley Caldwell win by four shots against Timothy Rock, while Adi Davison's rink outgunned Len McIlroy to the tune of 19 shots.

The second half was a different story as the JTI rink under the leadership of Brian Russell had a splendid win over Matthew Boyd and Billy Lynn's troops claimed another point after defeating Christopher Wilson by three shots.

Towers BC gained revenge for their only league defeat of the season when they whitewashed Old Bleach, although it was not as easy as the scoreline might suggest.

The first half saw one shot prove very important when David McCullough and Graham Maybin's rinks each won by a single shot, the latter by virtue of a three-shot haul on the last end.

The second half was much more beneficial for the home team as Darren McCullough skipped his rink to a 14-shot win, while Ivan Craig came out on top against David Burrowes by four shots.

Moneyglass have found the going tough since their promotion and last week they shipped quite a few shots and were unable to gain any points.

The visiting BUSC team were clear winners in all four games, with rinks skipped by Uel Fleming, Richard Fleming, Nigel Robinson and Bryan Magrath.

Social Club were also involved in a rearranged league match at Old Bleach, where the sides could not be separated shots-wise, but the Randalstown side took the odd point in five.

Half-time came with BUSC leading by four shots, the result of Richard Fleming's five shot eclipse of Willie Fullerton, to which Neil Booth replied with a single shot win over Uel Fleming.

The second half was equally close with Mervyn McDonald's rink wiping out that half-time deficit and the game between David Burrowes and Bryan Magrath ended all square at seven apiece.

This was a beneficial result for Bleach but BUSC will feel they let slip an opportunity to close the gap on the leading teams.
