Showgrounds to host pre-season tournament

A pre-season football tournament in Ballymena featuring a Liverpool XI and Scottish Premier League side Hearts was officially launched this morning (Tuesday).

The four-team tournament, which has been organised by Irish League side Crusaders, will take place at Ballymena Showgrounds from July 25-27.

The fourth team in the line-up will be announced in a few days and tickets for the tournament - from as little as £9 for a concession ticket up to £40 for a full three-day adult tournament ticket - will go on general sale from June 17.

Welcoming the announcement, Mayor of Ballymena, Alderman PJ McAvoy said: “Ballymena is a great place with great people and I am delighted that an event of this calibre will be held in the Borough.”
