Showgrounds tournament is shelved

A proposed pre-season football tournament scheduled for Ballymena will now take palce in Belfast, it’s been revealed.

The four-team tournament, hosted by Irish League side Crusaders, and also including Scottish Premier League side Hearts and a Liverpool XI, had been due to take place later this month.

Now, however, Glentoran have replaced Spanish side Celta Vigo and the torunament will be played at Glentoran’s ground, the Oval, in east Belfast.

In a statement, Ballymena Borough Council said: “Ballymena Borough Council is sorry to learn of the cancellation of the Crusaders pre-season tournament.

“The Ballymena Showgrounds is an excellent facility and the Council looks forward to the other events planned for the Showgrounds in the coming months.”
