Shut down striker

The Blues host Linfield at Mourneview Park, with the Belfast side boasting a striker in form.

The former Glentoran forward, who made the switch between the ‘Big Two’ in the summer, has bagged four goals in three league games and Hamilton knows he’s the key man to stop if his side are to get back to winning ways.

He reckons they know how to do that too, having held out Cliftonville’s potent strike duo in Lurgan a couple of weeks ago.

He said: “Andy has come back in for them and is playing well. Their results are on the up as a consequence.

“He’d trouble anyone with the pace that he has.

“He’s a hard man to come up against.

“To stop that, we need to defend from the front and close the ball down well.

“We need to stop the supply to him like we did to Liam Boyce and Joe Gormley.

“That’s how you have a chance of winning this sort of game.

“Getting anything out of the match will be a good result for us.”

Hamilton reckons it’ll be another good spectacle for Glenavon fans but then most games are these days. They’ve won five of their opening nine league outings and even when three points don’t arrive, goals invariably do. There have been 37 of those in the Blues’ league games so far and the boss is predicting more entertainment this weekend.

“Linfield have just got five wins in a row and will be full of confidence, although our confidence is high as well. That makes for a great game,” he said.

“We’ll be trying to win the game as always, although we know it will be very difficult.

“Hopefully we’ll give a good account of ourselves and work hard like we did against Cliftonville.
