Silverware beckons for Rangers

THREE matches left and two magnificent pieces of silverware beckoning, manager Stephen Small is urging his Carrick Rangers team to see out the club’s most memorable season since the historic year of 1976 in a blaze of glory with a thumping hat-trick of wins.

Rangers hope to have the IFA Championship One trophy safely in the bag before Monday night’s Intermediate Cup Final.

Saturday was a day the club officials, management, players, supporters will never forget because their derby win over Larne when coupled with Institute’s home win over second-placed Limavady United all but gifted the league title to Rangers.

The team’s battling 2-0 victory over a gutsy Larne side, drew praise from manager Small for the club’s wonderful band of supporters.

He says the fans played their part in lifting them to a crucial derby East Antrim win.

“Although we are only human and have been well aware of the big prizes at stake, we have been trying all along to keep our focus concentrated on the game in hand and that’s what we did on Saturday,” said Small. “Only when our matches have finished, did we then take a glance at results elsewhere.

“However, on Saturday when we were struggling to get the breakthrough goal against a hungry and determined, physical Larne team which was playing to its strengths. We needed a little spark to ignite us – and we got it from the supporters.
