Six of the best for United

Newbuildings United...6

Dromara Village...1

Newbuildings United progressed to the fourth round of the Irish Cup for the first time in their history.

They had an emphatic win at home to top amateur side Dromara Village.

Right from the kick off the home side showed their intentions when David Scanlon played Garth Falconer through on the left and his cross found Ricky Lee Dougherty who volleyed over from six yards out.

Dromara grabbed the lead when a clearance from their keeper saw the ball drop to their striker who found the target with a left foot volley from 25 yards out which flew into the top corner. Newbuildings kept pushing forward and causing problems with Falconer and Wallace on the wings proving a constant threat.

Confusion reigned in the away defence as the centre half fell to ground and then handled the ballresulting in a penalty to United. Robinson cooly dispatched the spot kick to bring the home side level.

The rest of the first half saw both sides cancel each other out and the game remained tied at the interval.

In the second half Newbuildings dominated and two quick goals to put them 3-1 up.

The first saw Robinson played through and he outpaced the away defence before lobbing the ball over the advancing keeper and into the back of the net. Newbuildings third saw Wallace play Robinson through on the right and he completed his hatrick driving the ball home with an angled shot from 15 yards out.

Newbuildings next goal came when Dougherty broke through on the left with his run ending in him being impeeded inside the box leading to another penalty to United. Robinson stepped up again to blast the ball into the roof of the net to take his personal tally to four goals.

The visitors seemed to lose all composure now and lost a man for his second booking of the game with a late challenge.

The fith came when sub Matty Smyth collected the ball on the right, side stepped a couple of challenges and bent a left foot shot past the helpless keeper and in off the far post.

Curry was proving a handful too with his pace and he went on a run past a couple of defenders into the box where he rounded the keeper only to be upended by the Dromara stopper which led to the third penalty of the game. The goalkeeper was dismissed and the visitors played the remainder of the game with nine men. Matty Smyth stepped up only to see his spot kick saved. Smyth would make amends though scoring Newbuildings sixth when he completed the rout with a superb curled shot into the top corner.
