Six pointer as Whites prepare for Swifts’ clash

DISTILLERY boss Tim McCann says today’s (Saturday) clash with Dungannon Swifts is a ‘six pointer’ for the Whites.

McCann’s men lifted their side off the bottom of the table with a win over fellow strugglers Donegal Celtic recently, and despite a set-back last weekend at home to Ballymena United, McCann is confident his side can climb the table by beating those sides around them.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” said McCann. “We had two wins in a row, one in the league and one in the cup. We scored 12, conceded none, so I thought we were on a wee bit of a roll as we started to find the back of the net. Obviously Saturday didn’t go our way against Ballymena, but anyone who was at that game will know it could have been 4-0 to us even before they scored.

“I’m still very optimistic,” he added. “The aim is to take three points, this is a must win, a draw is no good. It’s the same as against Donegal Celtic, we had to win. This is a six pointer, we need to put distance between ourselves and Donegal Celtic and close the gap between the two teams above us, Glenavon and Dungannon. If we can collect three points and the teams around us lose, which they did last weekend, then we can move away from them.

“The atmosphere in the camp is brilliant and we’re creating chances so I’m not too despondent. If we weren’t creating chances I would be worried, but last weekend we had 16 chances and they had six, it’s just a matter of the boys finding their shooting boots.”

McCann continued: “Hopefully Saturday was just a blip and we will be back scoring goals again. Once we get in front we are very tough to beat, my aim is to go at Dungannon from the off.”

The Whites’ boss will have a tough decision to make ahead of the match with a fully fit squad to choose from.

“I have a fully fit squad for the first time this season. I have a squad of 22 and can only pick 16, and obviously only 11 can start, so it’s a tough decision.”
