Sky Blue TV’s footage of penalty incident goes worldwide!

IN media terms, it’s a ‘scoop’ that they’ll never forget!

As Tim Agnew, Andrew Cathcart, Calum Swain and Andrew Leacock – the four lads responsible for the excellent Sky Blue TV production – headed to the Easter Tuesday game at Dungannon Swifts, they could have had no inkling that their work would reach such a worldwide audience in just a few hours’ time.

But with the TV companies turning their back on what was deemed a largely meaningless Carling Premiership fixture, the Ballymena Academy students were responsible for the only camera at the ground.

As a result, they were the only people to capture the remarkable penalty incident which saw Swifts player/coach Darren Murphy deliberately miss a spot kick, which had been awarded after Ballymena’s Gavin Taggart had caught the ball in the penalty area in order for team-mate Chris Rodgers to receive urgent treatment for a head injury.

Ballymena went on to win the match 4-2 with goals from Alan Teggart, Gary McCutcheon, James Costello and Jamie Davidson – his first senior goal – but the only talking point was that remarkable penalty incident.

The Sky Blue TV boys’ footage immediately went viral and has current had more than 46,000 views on You Tube, while Eurosport and TalkSport have also featured the footage on their websites.

“The boys fully deserve the exposure they have received,” said United company secretary Neil Coleman.

“None of these young lads can drive yet they can make their way to grounds across the country for nothing other than their love for the club – their efforts would put the TV companies to shame at times,” added Neil.
