Slick Portstewart hit four past league leaders Armagh City

Goals from Nigel Turner, Ryan Doherty, James Peden and Ricky Dunlop saw Championship Two leaders Armagh City recording their first defeat of the season at a soggy Mullaghacall on Saturday.

It was a well deserved victory for Gary Taylor’s side who played some good flowing football against a slick Armagh side.

Nigel Turner opened the scoring with a fine drive to leave the score 1-0 at the break.

Ryan Doherty finished off a pulsating run down the left hand side with the second of the tie before James Peden scored directly from a free kick.

Portstewart were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box and Ricky Dunlop made no mistake to fire home ten minutes from time.

Armagh did get a consolation goal in the 85th minute, but it didn’t take any shine off the home side.

Ports boss Gary Taylor was thrilled with the win, he hopes that his side can do the same again this Saturday when they host Moyola.

“I was well pleased with the display. It was an all round team performance, I couldn’t fault any player.

“I really felt that our defence and keeper Joel deserved a clean sheet they have been excellent in the past few weeks.

“We have been playing really well this past few weeks, but just not scoring goals, so we were really delighted to a good win over the league leaders.”

Taylor is hoping to finally record a win over ‘bogey’ side Moyola: “We are at home so many that will give us a little advantage. We have a full squad to choose from, so fingers crossed it will be more of the same come Saturday.
