Smith signs for Rangers

Former Northern Ireland international Andy Smith has today signed for Carrick Rangers.

Smith, who has had spells with Glentoran, Ballymena United and Preston North End, agreed a one-year deal with the club this afternoon.

His move bolsters manager Michael Hughes’ attacking options, and comes hot on the heels of the acquisition of former Larne striker Adam Dick.

The 31-year-old made 18 appearances for Northern Ireland and he played on the international stage alongside his new boss, Hughes.

Carrick Rangers captain Gary Haveron, who played with Smith at Ballymena United, said: “I am delighted to have Andy on board because I know how much quality he has.

“He has a lot of experience and I hope he can make a big impact for us and help us achieve our goal of promotion back to the Premiership.”

Carrick Rangers currently sit in second spot in the Championship 1 with seven points from their opening three games.
