SML round-up: Carniny, Homers lead way in Rainey Cup goal avalanche

Biggest scorers were Carniny Rangers who pludered 12 goals against fellow top flight side FC Moylena, closely followed by Harryville Homers, who scored nine against Lisnafillan Swifts.

FC Moylena 1, Carniny Rangers 12: The home side were first on the scoresheet after just four minutes when Steven Nicholl latched on to Jackie Todd’s flick to rocket a shot from 20 yards off the post.

Carniny’s response was almost instant as two minutes later Tyler Caulfield’s effort went in off the upright to level things up.

After Moylena failed to clear a corner kick, Ryan Bamber scored from close range to give his team the lead on 13 minutes. Michael McQuitty added another on 19 minutes to make it 3-1.

Just before half time Michael McQuitty finished off a three man move for his second goal. Frazer Young then made it five right on the half time whistle with a fine header.

Carniny continued in the same vein after the break, Alan Norton cut in from the right to shoot past Willie Fluke in the 53rd minute.

Ten minutes later Jonny Spence got on the scoresheet after coming close just minutes before. Dean Dunlop and Darren Kidd were introduced for Carniny with 25 minutes to play with Dean Dunlop making an immediate impact as he scored from Shane Donnelly’s cross. Frazer Young scored his second and Carniny’s ninth on 69 minutes as his free kick from 20 yards out cleared the wall and crept in under the crossbar.

With 15 minutes left Lindsay Curry replaced Frazer Young, the veteran playmaker was soon involved as his neat cutback from his son Ryan’s

cross set Dean Dunlop up for his second goal of the game.

Shane Donnelly capped another good performance with a header from eight yards out while Darren Kidd added a 12th goal after good work from Ryan Bamber in the 89th minute.

All Saints OB 7, Galgorm Blues 2: The opening goal came on 11 minutes when Barry Hamill swung over an inch perfect corner from the right for Gavin Burnside to head home from close range.

Saints were pegged back on 25 minutes when Lee McCaughern found the net with a brilliant curling free kick.

Six minutes later Saints regained the lead when Brian Watt drilled a free kick from 20 yards out into the bottom corner.

Galgorm started the second half well and drew level soon after the restart when a long ball over the top from Craig McCaughern found Derek Montgomery and he smashed past Brian Martin in the Saints goal.

Just after the hour mark Saints regained the lead once again when Barry Hamill crossed for Donald Crawford to head home from close range.

This goal opened the floodgates for Saints as they soon made it 4-2 when Barry Hamill got the by-line on the left and pulled the ball back for Peter McReynolds to slot home from 18 yards out.

McReynolds then turned provider as he slipped in Crawford to bundle home his second and make it 5-2 for Saints.

Saints made it 6-2 when McReynolds followed up his left foot shot off the post to score and then in the dying minutes an inch perfect cross from Dessie Birt on the right found Gordon Dillon who brilliantly directed his header into the top corner.

Lisnafillan Swifts 0, Harryville Homers 9: The hosts held their own in the opening exchanges but the game changed midway through the half when Jasin Magill gave his side the lead.

Just before half time the home side were dealt a major blow when they were reduced to 10 men for an off the ball incident.

The Cup Holders made their numerical advantage count early in the second period as Paul McNeill raced through before rocketing a left footer in off the underside of the bar.

Alan Rainey notched a quickfire brace to make it four nil before the hosts’ discipline imploded completely, as they were reduced to eight men.

Paul McNeill added his second before Alan Rainey completed his fifth hat trick of the season to make it 6-0.

Darren Campbell popped up in the box to get onto the scoresheet for number seven before Gary Baird made it eight from the spot after new boy Jordy Craig was upended in the box.

Jasin Magill rounded off the demolition late oe.

FIRMUS ENERGY DIVISION ONE

Clough Rangers 5, FC Antrim 0: The opening goal came on 17 minutes when Jordan Leighton raced cleared and brilliantly found the net with a delicate chip.

Clough doubled their lead on 56 minutes when David Gage nodded home a long throw from Richard Dunlop.

The third goal followed soon after and it came through an Antrim player when he bizarrely found his own net.

Clough sealed the victory with a fourth goal on 70 minutes. Richard Dunlop cut the ball back for Gage to fire home his second of the game.

The fifth goal came with 15 minutes to go when Jonny Clarke broke down the left and cut the ball back to Adrian McDonald who placed the ball in the bottom corner.
