Sound display sees Tobermore United draw with PSNI

Although the one point gained was enough to see them leapfrog the Roesiders, they will probably feel, much to the delight of the Limavady supporters in the crowd, that it was two points lost rather than a point gained.

That said a draw in the end was a fair result as Tobermore once again showed that they deservedly hold third spot with a very sound all round display especially taking into consideration their recent poor record against the police.

The visitors controlled most of an entertaining first half at a bitterly cold Fortwilliam Park but despite their superior possession home keeper Matty McGraw was rarely troubled with Conor Kearns and Paul Keane superb in front of him.

The second half was a much more even affair with Tobermore’s midfield and forward line giving the visitors plenty to think about but a mistake in the home defence with about 15 minutes to go gave the ball away and when it fell to Shane Dolan, the big number 9 made no mistake from close range.

Steven Lamont replaced the hard working Gary Keane and the nippy forward took only five minutes to make his mark when he was first to the ball inside the box giving keeper Jordan Williamson no chance with a fine finish to level proceedings.

Both sides had chances to take all three points but there were no more goals and the spoils were shared.

Tobermore’s popular Mini Soccer sessions continue this Saturday morning. As usual the fun sessions begin at 10am sharp (registration at 9.45am) until 11am in Maghera Leisure Centre and is open to all boys and girls of primary school age.
