South Antrim league all set for the big kick off this weekend

The South Antrim league will kick-off tomorrow (Saturday), 2pm, and it promises to be a good season for the League with the top teams from former years vying to see off the challenge of the new boys.

There are also three first round Ironside Cup ties down for decision with Ballymacash YM II trying very hard to put one over on their senior team, who happen to be the holders of the trophy. Can’t see it happening though.

Taughmonagh YM will surely be far too strong for Sandy Row II and two of the new teams, Woodvale YM and 10th Old Boys meet. Woodvale would appear to be the favourites here.

There will be a new feature throughout the South Antrim League season with a special Match of the Day coverage in the Star.

The first one is the intriguing clash between Ballymacash YM firsts and seconds in the Ironside Cup.

The intention is not to specifically cover top teams and matches but rather everyone will be featured at some stage during the season.

South Antrim teams know their fate

Three South Antrim League Premier Division teams know their fate in the first round of the IFA Junior Cup, to be played on Saturday, September 12.

The others will find out soon.

Taughmonagh YM play Claudy Rovers from the North West Junior League Division 1 at Suffolk and the home draw gives Taughmonagh a real chance.

Belvoir FC are also at home to Newmills from the Mid Ulster Football League Division 3. The match is at Lough Moss with the form book unknown.

Lambeg Rangers face the trip to Derryhirk Utd, who play in Division 1 of the Mid Ulster League.

This match at Lurgan will be a tough assignment for Rangers.

Division 1: Ballymacash Rgs III v 1st Lisburn II Barbour 3, Taughmonagh YM II v Bloomfield III Suffolk, Orangefield OB III v Warren YM II Victoria Park, Cregagh Wanderers v Belvoir FC II Bloomfield

Division 2: Moira Albion II v South Antrim II Moira Demesne, Lambeg Rgs II v Glenavy III Wallace 3, Newtown Forest III v Harmony Hill Hydebank, Ballymacash YM III v Victoria Ath Ballymacoss 2.
