Southside Youths continue their encouraging start

SOUTHSIDE Youths continued their great start to the season with a 4-1 home win against Grosvenor Youth on Saturday.

After beating last year's league champions, Castleview, Southside wanted to get another three points to make last week's brilliant victory worthwhile.

Southside started brightly and the first goal came when Kyle Jackson played a superb ball over the top of Grosvenor's defence, for Ryan Corrigan to run onto. Ryan then put an excellent ball into the box for Leon Bonnes to finish emphatically with a left footed shot into the top left hand corner.

The second came two minutes before half time, when a move involving Michael Balmer, Nico Dunlop and Leon Bonnes ended in a penalty for Southside, when Bonnes was fouled just inside the box. Jonny Logan stepped up and buried the penalty into the bottom corner of the net.

Southside got a third, just after half time, when another great ball over the Grosvenor defence, by Kyle Jackson was chased by Leon Bonnes, who, when the ball was bouncing, dinked it over the keeper from 15 yards.

Grosvenor then had a good 20 minute spell. During that time they won a penalty, that was scored by their captain.

Southside scored their fourth when Leon Bonnes completed his hat-trick with another well taken goal. A good win for Southside, but manager Colin Stewart believes there is still room for improvement.
