Stalemate in only '˜Reds' game to beat weather

The U17s travelled to Coleraine to take on Ballymoney Utd YA playing out an entertaining game despite the 0-0 score line, with the Carniny boys finding the Ballymoney keeper in super form to deny them from scoring on several occasions.

As this was Carniny’s first competitive game after the winter break it took the team time to settle but after ten minutes they started to play some good football with Conor Doherty, Stephen Greer and Peter Rankin all going close to scoring.

Ballymoney were always dangerous on the break and on a couple of occasions Gareth Kealey in the Carniny goal had to be alert. Just before half-time the Ballymoney goalkeeper came to his side’s rescue pulling off a couple of smart saves to keep the half-time score at 0-0.

Ballymoney had the better of the opening exchanges of the second half without creating any clear chances. Carniny came more into the game but again chances went a begging through poor finishing and a Ballymoney goalkeeper who was having an inspired game.

Near the end, Carniny players and management were disappointed in not being awarded a penalty when in their opinion Peter Rankin was clipped from behind when he was about to shoot on goal.

The game ended 0-0 but this was far from a dull, dour game with both teams playing some entertaining football.

This match was probably summed up by the Ballymoney team who awarded their goalkeeper Corey Blair with their Man of Match award and the Carniny team would certainly agree with that decision.

PARLIAMENT VISIT

On a visit to London last week, Carniny Amateur & Youth FC secretary Billy O’Flaherty was a guest of Ian Paisley MP last week at the Houses of Parliament.

The MP for North Antrim has been giving advice and guidance regarding a project the club are involved with. The club wish to thank Mr Paisley for his support which is very much appreciated.

The secretary was also able to take in two Premiership games with Chelsea entertaining West Bromwich Albion and Everton.
