Stars turn out in force for Northend United golf day

NORTHEND United Youth FC’s inaugural fund-raising golf day proved a huge success on Sunday.

With many sporting personalities supporting the Northend cause it turned out to be an excellent day’s craic, with many already enquiring when next year’s event will be held.

Northend’s Chairman, Johnny Sayers, welcomed football stars from yesteryear such as Liam Beckett, Terry Hayes, Lindsay McKeown, Paul Kirk, Keith Gillespie and John O’Neill, who rubbed shoulders with the Scannell Brothers, Chris and Ronan of Cliftonville as well as the current Ballymena United FC Management team of Glenn Ferguson, Lee Doherty and Norman Kelly.

Joel Taggart of BBC Ulster radio commentary fame also took part in Northend’s special day.

But undoubtedly the star of the day was the appearance of Stephen Ferris of Ireland and Ulster Rugby, who also proved to be a dab hand at Golf.

At the presentation afterwards, Liam Beckett was presented with the prize for best Golfing Personality, receiving his award from Compere, Jackie Fullerton.
