Striker is hoping to make his mark

The former Derry City man admitted it was a tough decision to leave his home town club, but Derry’s loss could definitely be the Bannsiders gain.

“I’m delighted with the move, I’m just looking forward to getting started in January now,” McDaid told Times Sport.

“Coleraine is a good team and a good set-up. They are not getting the results they want at the minute, but a lot of that is down to bad luck, hopefully that will change very soon.

“I’m not going to put a lot of pressure on myself, but I don’t intend on us being at the bottom of the table for too long.”

The 23-year-old said Oran Kearney was key in him deciding to sign on at The Showgrounds.

“Oran is the main reason why I decided to join Coleraine, he made me feel what I wanted to feel.

“He’s a really nice man and I just wanted to come play for him.

“Oran, the players and the rest of the staff have made me feel very welcome here and I’m looking forward to getting started. It was a hard decision to leave Derry City, I’ve been there for seven or eight years.

“There was an opportunity to stay on at Derry but it was on different terms from what I would have liked. Roddy is the new boss and he’s his own man and he wants to bring in his own players and I respect that, but I hope they can do well and maybe go on and win the league.”
