Strollers return to winning ways to remain at top of table

Wakehurst Strollers maintained their position at the top of Ballymena & Provincial League Junior Division Two at the weekend.

After a couple of setbacks in recent weeks, Jason Connolly’s side returned to form with a 4-1 win at Ballyclare North End.

It wasn’t such an enjoyable day for some of the other locally-based sides in action, however, with defeats for Clough Rangers Athletic, also in Junior Division Two, and Chimney Corner, in the intermediate section.

Killymoon Rangers 2, Chimney Corner 1: What an end to a game there was in this match with all the goals being scored inside the final six minutes.

The scoreline remianed blank until the 84th minute when Jack Kelly converted a penalty putting the Corner in front.

Andy Chesney had the chance to equalise on the 86th minute but saw his penalty saved then Jamie O’Neil scored for Killymoon from the penalty spot on the 88th minute.

Stoppage time was then being played when on the 95th minute Andy Chesney made up for his earlier miss when he scored what proved to be the winner for Killymoon.

Brantwood Reserves 9, Clough Rangers Athletic 1: The Brantwood goal scoring spree continued on Saturday bringing their total in the last three games to 26 goals scored.

Gareth McAuley started off scoring on the 20th minute followed by Mark McCann on the 26th minute and two more by Gareth McAuley to complete his hat-trick on the 39th and 41st minutes.

Mark McCann made it five nil on the 56th minute then Dean Abbott made it six on the 57th minute.

Ross Steele pulled a goal back for Clough on the 62nd minute then three more goals scored by Gareth McAuley 65th Mark McCann 67th and an own goal on the 80th minutes completed the scoring.

Ballyclare North End 1, Wakehurst Strollers 4: Wakehurst took the lead after John Alexander scored on the 16th minute this being followed by a second goal scored by Paul Gilchrist on the 19th minute.

Wakehurst went three goals ahead on the 35th minute when Roy Colville scored and made it four nil after Philip Cunningham scored on the 57th minute.

North End to their credit never gave up getting a consolation goal after Gary Black scored on the 70th minute.

CANADA TROPHY, ROUND ONE

Antrim Rovers 2, Larne Olympic 3 (aet): Antrim scored the first goal when Darryl Brammeld was on the mark on the 20th minute and held this lead until Jonny McManus equalised for Larne on the 46th minute.

Larne then went in front after Jonny McManus scored his second goal on the 55th minute then saw Darren Adair score the equaliser on the 78th minute.

Extra-time was played with Keith Hall scoring the winner for Larne on the 103rd minute.
