’Stute ready for Rangers test

INSTITUTE Head of Development Paul Kee is hoping his side can bounce back this weekend, when they host bottom club Glebe Rangers (KO 3pm).

Kee has watched ’Stute lose their last three games, but feels if they can take the lead in a game then their recent poor form could come to an end.

“Unfortunately we aren’t scoring goals and are conceding at the other end, so confidence is low at the minute,” explained Kee.

“However I believe if we can take the lead in a game then things will turn around. At the minute if we fall a goal behind then we are letting that affect us.

“It doesn’t matter who we are playing, we approach every game the same whether it’s Ballinamallard or Glebe and the one thing I’ll be telling the players is that it’s going to be a battle against Glebe, because they are bottom of the league and will be fighting for every point.”

Kee also believes that despite being 10 points behind leaders Ballinamallard United their plan is still on track.

“We are still in a healthy position because the thing about the Championship is that everyone on their day is capable of beating each other.

“Sometimes teams go through patches like the one we are in. We had a similar poor run of form earlier in the season and we came through that, so hopefully we can do that again sooner rather than later.

“Only recently we had won eight games in a row and I find it incredibly the amount of interest that is on us now, compared to whenever we were on that winning run.

“I’m trying to get a group of players to buy into the club’s ethos and to be honest I feel we aren’t that far away.”

The Drumahoe club will be without centre-back John Curran as he serves a suspension, while Tommy McBride is expected to return to the squad.

“There are one or two matters with Tommy, which the club is trying to sort out. At the end of the day he’s a talented young player, in fact I feel he’s one of our best players, so hopefully he’ll be available this weekend.”

Meanwhile the Waterside men face old rivals Limavady United in the fourth round of the JJB Sports Irish Cup.

The tie will take place at the Riverside Stadium, on Saturday, December 10 and Kee is expecting another tough encounter against David Platt’s side.

“Once again it’s going to be a ding dong battle, but one which our players should relish, however it’s still a number of weeks away and we have a few leagues games before the Irish Cup tie, so I just want the players to concentrate on Glebe this weekend and the cup tie will take care of itself,” concluded Kee.
