The club, which will be named in honour of Wes, who sadly passed away in May this year, is the brainchild of a number of the club’s current stewards and fans.

“A few months ago the stewards at Coleraine FC had considered the possibility of forming their own Supporters’ Club,” Steering Committee Chairman Alan McLean told Times Sport.

“After consideration it was decided that, at that time there was no opening for another Supporters’ Club with three affiliated Coleraine FC supporters’ clubs already in operation in the area.

“In the meantime we redecorated the Stewards Room at Coleraine Football Club and replaced the electrical items at own expense.

“We discussed the possibility of asking CFC to permit us to name the room as the ‘WES GREGG STEWARDS ROOM’ in memory of the former first team coach.

“We did not get around to asking the club because one of the local supporters clubs had closed. With this development the opportunity for the formation of the new supporters’ club was now back on our agenda.

“A group of five, comprised of club stewards and members of the supporters club which had closed, got together to discuss the possible formation of a new supporters club.

“It was decided to go ahead with it. A steering committee was formed by the five, namely Wesley Douglas (Treasurer), Alan McLean (Chairman), Mark McLean (Media}, Ivor Wallace (Vice Chairman) and Kevin Wellings (Secretary].

“The first decision to be made by the committee was to name the new club. With the agreement of all it was decided that we should name the club in memory of the former Coleraine coach, the late Wesley Gregg.

“Out of courtesy and respect we approached his family and informed them of our intentions. They gave their permission for us to name the new supporters club in his honour and memory.

“And so the Wes Gregg Coleraine Supporters’ Club was formed.”

The official launch night for the Wes Gregg CSC is Tuesday, 6th October at 7.30pm in the Academy Suite at The Showgrounds. Members of the Gregg family will be in attendance.

Alan is hoping fans get behind this wonderful tribute to Wes.

“We would ask all Coleraine fans to consider joining the WGCSC at the launch night,” he said.

“The club has been named in honour of and in of memory of a person who all Coleraine fans held close to their hearts.

“Wes Gregg’s commitment to Coleraine FC and Coleraine Academy was astounding. He was a special man, a one off, and I believe it would be a fitting tribute to Wes if the Coleraine fans were to join and make this Supporters Club something special.

“Wes once said that Coleraine FC is not just a football club, it’s a family. We the founding committee members would therefore like to make this club into a family friendly club.

“At the time of writing we have had over 180 likes on the club’s Facebook page.

“It would be great if we could turn a large percentage of those likes into members on the launch night. We have had a membership application from Scotland and two from County Fermanagh.”

Membership of the club will cost £15.00 per year for adults.

Persons under 16 years of age will be able to avail of free membership but must be accompanied by an adult when taking out membership. Persons under 16 years of age will also be required to be accompanied by an adult if traveling on any buses organised by the club.

There will be a strict behavioural policy applied by the club.
