Sweeney to make 'Stute debut

INSTITUTE are hoping Vinny Sweeney will finally make his debut when they host Portstewart in the first round of the Craig Memorial Cup, this Saturday, (KO 2.30pm).

Sweeney, who signed a few weeks ago, should have his international clearance sorted out and is likely to go straight into John Gregg's squad this weekend.

Gregg also confirmed that he's more than likely going to give more youngsters a run-out in cup competitions.

"At the end of the day I only can afford seven experienced players for my first team, so I can't really afford to use them in all the cup competitions, which we have," he admitted.

"Because of that I will be bringing in more young players for this Saturday's game, I can't afford the likes of Thomas Wray, David Ogilby and Ruairi McClean to name but three, to either get injured and miss the Carrick game."

Having said that the Coleraine man, who will be keeping one eye on next Tuesday night's Ladbrokes.com Championship One encounter at home to Carrick Rangers, has also conceded McClean and Sweeney will get some much needed minutes under their belts.

"Because we play Carrick next Tuesday night in the league, I'll be looking to give both Vinny and Ruairi at least sixty minutes on Saturday, because the both of them need game time.

"Ruairi is just back from his holidays and although he did come on at Dundela at the weekend he still needs more games, although Vinny came from Derry City, I don't think he has played now for around a month, so he too needs a game.

"Regardless what type of team I put out I'll be expecting us to put in a performance, which will hopefully get us a positive result.

"At the end of the day we are at home and with it being our first home match of the season I'm hoping we can start on the right foot," concluded Gregg.
