Swifts get one over the side who pipped them to the title last season

Lurgan Town Reserves 1-2 Banbridge Rangers Swifts

Banbridge Rangers Swifts travelled to the home of Lurgan Town on Saturday to play a team that had pipped them to the Reserve Division 2 title in May of this year.

The Swifts have got off to a relatively slow start by picking up only one point from their opening two fixtures but on Saturday they followed the club trend of winning by the odd goal in three.

Lurgan managed to soak up a lot of early pressure from Rangers and eventually opened the scoring on the counter attack. The Gers stuck to their task and harried Lurgan all over the park and Neily Wilson levelled the scores ten minutes before half time when he reacted to a spilled shot from the keeper.

Banbridge Rangers looked most likely to score next with Robbie Baird firing just over the bar from 25 yards. Baird was tripped outside the box on 65 mins and Wayne McAllister curled a whipping free kick over the wall and in off the underside of the crossbar to make it 2-1.

Dean Gordon should have made it three when through one on one but curled wide and keeper Ryan Burns made a fantastic tackle at the other end when Lurgan got a rare sight of goal.

This was a good morale boost for the Swifts who looked a shadow off the team that has secured back to back promotions. Attention this week turns to the O’Hara Cup Round 2 with an away tie at Tandragee Rovers Reserves.
