Taking nothing for granted in the cup

GLENAVON boss Gary Hamilton is hoping to take another step towards Windsor Park on Tuesday evening.

The Blues host Institute in the League Cup third round (kick-off 7.45pm). ‘Stute are sitting third in Championship One having won three of their opening four league games, drawing the other.

They’ve bagged 18 goals in the process and Glenavon player/manager Gary Hamilton knows progression to the quarter-final is far from a formality.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” he said.

“They beat Carrick 5-1 at home a couple of weeks ago and Carrick are a team with plenty of Premiership experience.

“We will show them the respect that they deserve. We need to show the same attitude and hope that our ability takes over. Ability gets teams nowhere if you don’t show up with the right attitude. We need to work hard and put in the same effort, first and foremost.

“The good thing is, I think we are the type of team who will do that.”

The Blues will have to be wary of youthful duo Darren McCauley and Robbie Hume who have bagged five and four league goals respectively in those opening four games.

Glenavon, of course, overcame PSNI 6-0 to reach the third round while Institute defeated Glebe Rangers 2-0.
