Tale of two penalties as Dollybirds get back to winning ways at Wakehurst

They lost striker Chris Kingsberry in the first five minutes when he had to be carried off the pitch with very badly damaged ankle ligaments and he was replaced by Colin Cuningham. Wakehurst nearly opened the scoring in the seventh minute when a mix-up between Moffett and King allowed Jordan Foster the opportunity but he fired wide of the far post from an acute angle .

This spurred Dollingstown into action and despite playing fast fluent football they really failed to open up Wakehurst

defence until the 25th minute when a long ball over the top from the recalled Gareth Ringland found Ritchie Thompson

who was pulled back in the area and skipper Aaron Moffett duly converted the resultant penalty.

In the second half Dollingstown continued to play attractive football without any real penetration in final third of the pitch and on 57 minutes Wakehurst should have equalised themselves from the spot but leading scorer Conor Gregg fired his shot against the bar and the chance was lost.

Dolliingstown then punished the home side on 70 minutes when central defender Neil King headed home the crucial second goal from a Neil Clydesdale corner.

With this the game petered out as a contest but Dollingstown couldn’t go on and convert any more of the numerous chances they created most notably leading scorer Thompson who no doubt will hope to get back on the score sheet next week when Dollingstown host Banbridge Town at Planters Park with a 3.00pm kick-off.
