Taylor was less than impressed with his side’s exit from the Craig Memorial North West Cup on Saturday.

The Sea Hawks went down 2-0 at Institute Reserves much to Taylor’s disappointment.

“We were awful...that’s the worst we have played this season,” a brutally honest Taylor told Times Sport.

“We had three or four regulars missing, but we should have had enough to win the game.

“It’s very disappointing as this was a competition we were hoping to do well in. It was a favourable draw for us, but we just didn’t perform at all.

“Credit to Institute they played well, but we could have done a lot better.”

Portstewart started slowly but went in level at the break. Taylor said he tried to stir his players up at the break, but they conceded two quick goals and never recovered.

“It wasn’t the greatest perfformance in the first half, but at least we were still well in the game at the break,” he said.

“But we conceded two terrible goals just after the break and it was game over after that.

“We had been working hard in training on our defending, but we were sloppy on Saturday.

“Those goals killed us, we just never recovered from it.

“We need to get back to basics and cut out the silly mistakes otherwise it will cost us in more games to come,” added Taylor.
