Speaking after a 4-3 defeat on Saturday, Taylor says that he will wait and see how they finish in the league, and then decide if it’s time to ‘give someone else a go’.

Portstewart are sitting second bottom of Championship Two with three games in hand.

However with league restructuring, five teams from Championship Two will be relegated this year.

“Saturday’s result really just sums up the whole season.

“It’s a bad combination, giving away bad goals and not taking our chances,” said a dejected Ports boss.

“We were 3-0 down at half time, at this minute in time I think if we finish in the bottom two, then we deserve to go down, and I think it’s time for me to step aside,” he admitted.

“It might be time for someone new to come in with new ideas,” he said.

A brace from Johnny Stewart and a header from Lee Forgrave saw the Ports pulling the score line back to 4-3.

“I think even if we had of got a point on Saturday, it would have been something.

“We are running out of games to claim points, the end of the season is coming.”

Taylor admitted that he had a brief chat with committee members on Saturday: “It looks likely that we would go into the North West Intermediate League.

“Other teams that go down from Championship Two are likely to go into this league too, so it could be a strong league.

“I have spoken with a number of the players and I think that the majority of them will stay on.

“Everything is so up in the air at the minute, I know one thing if I am still the manager, I will be doing all I can to get the team back up into the higher league again. It will be of course give the Club a chance to build, to bring in some young players and financially speaking it won’t be as tough, but it’s never nice to be relegated.

“I have been at Portstewart 25 years, it’s been a very hard long season.

“I have questioned myself and asked have I done all that I can, have I still got the effort in me to keep going, and sometimes I think that taking a break might be the best thing.

“Saturday’s game was very frustrating both for me as a manager and the players, we were like two different teams in both halfs. In the second half we showed that we can play well and created plenty of chances, the players responded to us at half time. They are fighting hard, but at this moment in time it is just too late.”

Portstewart have no fixture this Saturday.
